16 Years Later, Lebo Mathosa Gets Celebrated and Remembered With Remix E.P. Titled Forever!!!

16 Years after her untimely passing, the iconic Lebo Mathosa is being honored and remembered with the reimagination of some of her solo hits by modern day producers. The diva, who started her career as a member of Boom Shaka, one of Mzansi’s most enthralling Kwaito/Pop groups, went on to release 3 solo albums that spawned a string of hits, proving that she was no fluke, hiding behind the shadow of a group setting. To this very day, Au Dede still gets the party activated while taking you on memory lane to a time when Lebo, affectionately nicknamed Madibuseng, was the girl everyone meritoriously held up on a pedestal as the queen of dance.

Karyendasoul, the hitmaking producer/DJ known for Imali and collaborations with the likes of Black Coffee and Zakes Bantwini, took a stab at remixing Au Dede and created a remix that is a fitting tribute for an icon. The track sees Lebo’s vocals being remixed into a whole new dance beat in the vein of today’s Afro-Tech house music and in true craftsmanship, the final product sounds nothing of the past, proving how timeless good music. Soon to follow the Au Dede (Karyendasoul Remix), is an entire remix project some of South Africa’s biggest and best names when it comes to Dance music. Forever is what the E.P. will be called and it will also feature digitally remastered original versions of the remixed hits.

Due to how innovative music consumption has become, as a result of digital formatting, such projects are a welcome feat in efforts to make sure that South African music catalogue remains immortalized and available as opposed to the era of physical records when valuable music would fade into oblivion due to damage, a halt in print or any other reason that would catalogue inaccessible. As we celebrate and commemorate the legend that is Lebo Mathosa, there is no better way to carry her legacy forward than by keeping her voice echoing in our spaces, even though the everchanging sonic landscape.
