CAR SHOWROOM TRANSFORMS INTO ART GALLERY AT VIP LAUNCH
Top SA celebs, Milhlali Ndamase, Lasizwe, Doowap, Nirvana Nokwe, and Dr Lex Leo amongst others, received VIP treatment last night at the experiential, red-carpet showroom expansion of Sandton car dealership, EB Motors, where exotic luxury cars were turned into art installations.
Hosted by actor & media personality, Maps Maponyane, at the gallery-styled event, exotic cars were exhibited amongst art pieces around the showroom. In this, his first private gallery exhibition, visual artist Cee The Kreator also mesmerised guests when he created custom-painted artworks on two supercars on the night.
The evening also included a striking fashion show by African luxury clothing brand, Boyde. Founded by visionary fashion designer, Samkelo Boyde Xaba, the brand emphasises sustainability and functionality with looks inspired by geometric modernism, a pared-down minimalism, and Afro-cultural heritage.
EB Motors opened their Sandton location two years ago and haven’t looked back since, becoming a go-to for A-list, high-end car purchases in Gauteng and across the country. The company’s new Sandton showroom has upped the ante with a new light tunnel that showcases the latest models and acts as a photo installation for buyers and their new vehicles.
The new development comes amid growing interest in high-end vehicles in South Africa. According to Statista, the luxury car market in SA is expected to reach US$66M in 2024 and US$70M by 2028.
“We’ve always prided ourselves on premium service and customer experience and 2023 was a massive year for us. Along with tonight’s exhibition by Cee The Kreator, in 2024 we are looking forward to several unique culture & lifestyle collaborations as EB Motors continues to drive ingenuity and coolness in the luxury auto community,” says EB Motors spokesperson Yousha Minty.
A multi-disciplinary artist and visionary, Cee The Kreator is helping shape the creative African narrative through his playful use of anime, cartoons, and the cutting-edge realms of tech, music, and street-smart aesthetics which emphasise cross-cultural connections.
“Art been a major part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I feel very honoured to have had this opportunity. I wanted to inspire the audience, and the next generation of artists, that through imagination and trusting your ideas, the sky is the limit,” says Cee The Kreator who applied his stylized-animation art to two Porsche 911s on the night; the one wrapped in a digital design and the other hand-painted with characters and shapes from his Blockboy ‘N Friends (BBNF) collection.
A captivating, futuristic art, and cartoon universe, BBNF celebrates the vibrancy of African artistic expression in prints of original artwork, character figurines, skateboard decks, apparel, and customized sneakers that he presents as part of the “new renaissance of the SA art scene”. The collection also debuted internationally at Dubai’s Sole DXB music & culture festival in 2022.
Emphasizing EB Motors’ shift into a fully-fledged lifestyle brand, the event was curated by ‘Experientialist’, Diogo Mendonca, a creative force who has previously worked with brands such as Nike, Play Energy, Corona, Budweiser, BMW, Hennessy, NBA, and Coca Cola, amongst others.
