Jack Black Joins Forces with Gone to Raise Over R100,000 for Conservation

In a show of the power of our shared commitment to environmental responsibility, Jack Black was proud to partner with Gone4Good, a virtual trail run challenge hosted by the outdoor supply store, Gone. This initiative not only encouraged South Africans to stay active during the coldest month of the year, but also channelled their collective energy to raise R108,685 for local conservation organisations.

Gone4Good, which kicked off on 1 July and wrapped up on 30 July, unfolded across three routes—two within Cape Town, and one in Johannesburg. The lineup included the Gone4Good Classic spanning 17.7km, the Gone4Good Lite covering 10.8km, and the formidable Gone4Good JHB stretching 18.9km.

Unlike traditional races, Gone4Good had no starting line, finish banner, or overexcited MCs cheering participants on. The routes were simply suggestions and runners were encouraged to make the experience their own—there were even prizes up for grabs for participants who completed their route the most times throughout the month. At its core, the initiative is all about encouraging people to get out and explore while coming together to support a common cause.

1,964 participants recorded a total of 7,493km on Strava and the cause resonated with almost 15,000 people online. But Gone4Good’s crowning achievement is the R108,685 it raised for Protect the West Coast, Sentinel Ocean Alliance, Dream Higher and the African Pangolin Working Group—all organisations doing meaningful work to protect the South African environment and the creatures that call it home.

The event coincided perfectly with Jack Black’s Pint for a Purpose initiative in June and July, where proceeds from pints sold at Jack Black Taproom went directly to Sentinel Ocean Alliance. Participants who completed the Gone4Good run and donated to any one of the charities also received a complementary Jack Black beer and limited edition Gone4Good x Jack Black beer mug.

Although Gone4Good 2023 has come and gone, follow Jack Black on Instagram and Facebook to keep up with the next trail runs, events, and outdoor races sponsored by South Africa’s most well-loved craft beer.
