It was inevitable that Khanya would be drawn to the performance arts because of her family background. Her parents studied in exile during the Apartheid regime in South Africa and as a result, are well-travelled.

They exposed Khanya to a wide range of music, arts, and culture and they say that from the age of five, they could see that Khanya was good at singing and performing as she was always the star of the show at her nursery school concerts.

Khanya grew up with the desire to be in the entertainment industry and when she was in High School, she studied drama and was an extra on Rhythm City during school holidays.

After High School Khanya decided to move to Cape Town to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and Performance at the University of Cape Town and completed her degree in 2013.

Khanya’s first breakthrough in the television industry was her role as Nkuleh Dlamini on “Uzalo” (a South African Telenovela) in 2015.

She has also acted in various local films and acted on local television on shows like; Isidingo: The Need, Generations: The Legacy, Isithembiso, The Queen, and Gomora. Khanya’s first breakthrough in the music industry came after being discovered by the King of Kwaito Arthur Mafokate.

During that year Khanya fell in love with the new wave of local music called Amapiano and was featured on MFR Souls’ “Indlela”.
