ABOUT KWEYAMA BROTHERS

United by music & bound by blood – Kweyama Brothers is a tale of two brothers who found each other behind the DJ deck. They both hail from Hammesdale known as Mpumalanga in KZN, but both grew up on the total opposite spectrum of Durban. Stanky Deejay (Siza Kweyama) started Djing at the tender age of 9 & by the age of 15 he was already featured on radio mixes & playing in local clubs. Stanky, known for his insane Hip Hop sets, started exploring his love for Amapiano in 2018 and has never looked back. His recent project “Piano Cast” podcast has landed him global recognition with over 100K views on Youtube. Benny Maverick (Philani Kweyama) started his music career in 2008, and after struggling to secure bookings in a saturated market of upcoming DJ’s, he started his own event - Goodsundae, which became the biggest urban youth event in the city.

The DJ turned songwriter & producer released his first single Awuboni in 2015, followed by Vosho ft Paras in 2016 , his smash hit Memeza ft Dladla Mshunqisi in 2017, and featured in the SAMA Award-winning song Omnuye by Distruction Boyz alongside Dladla Mshunqisi. He later released two more hit songs Wena & Crime of Passion both featuring vocalist Skye Wanda. The COVID-19 Pandemic brought the industry friends & brothers to finally work together after years of talking about it and the birth of Kweyama Brothers come to life in 2021 and has since taken over music streams & airwaves with their first E.P ‘Mpumalanga” going Platinum.

In a time where we seem to be searching for a glimmer of hope, it is evident that there have been pockets of youth that have found it in Amapiano – so much so that political figure head, Julius Malema has been quoted as saying that Amapiano is eradicating poverty. And that is why the Kweyama Brothers have taken it a step further and given our youth a narrative that will undoubtedly take them out of the pockets of poverty that they find themselves in. Benny Maverick stated, “The generations of yesteryear had the evils of apartheid to fight against, and our generation are simply wading through the aftermath of what apartheid left behind – and we have to take back our power.” Stanky went on to reiterate that, “We have to use our platform of music to give up and ultimately mobilise our youth to take back their lives.”
