Levi’s® Plant-Based 501®s
Over the past five years, the Levi's® brand has introduced new products that balance innovative design thinking and an overriding commitment to sustainability. Now, as Levi's® celebrates the 150th anniversary of its iconic 501®s, the brand is introducing a new range of sustainable products—a Plant-Based 501®, a hemp-cotton blend Selvedge 501®, and a Circular 501®, showcasing how even one of history's most classic apparel items can be a platform for new thinking and technologies.
The 501® Plant-Based jean consists of a minimum of 97% plant-based materials, including certified organic cotton, natural dyes, a plant-based patch, and ink from wood waste. Continuing the journey Levi's® began through its work with cottonised hemp in the Wellthread® collection, the brand has also unveiled the Selvedge 501®s crafted from a hemp-cotton blend. In addition, it has also introduced the Circular 501®s, a mix of organic cotton and innovative Renewcell Circulose® fibre. This viscose is partially made from recycled denim and textile waste, minimising the consumption of natural resources and reducing the use of chemicals during manufacturing.
This range is a testament to Levi's® dedication to reshaping the industry standard, proving that even timeless designs can evolve with the changing demands of the modern world. Levi's® Plant-Based 501®s, Selvedge 501®s, and Circular 501®s will be available online and in Levi's® selected stores V&A Waterfront, Sandton, Menlyn, Gateway and Canal Walk.
