LIFESIZE TEDDY RETURNS WITH HER SOPHOMORE EP ‘POISN’
Rapper, poet and singer/songwriter Lifesize Teddy, the latest signing to Africa’s No.1 record labelMavin Records has released her sophomore EP ‘POISN’.
A more subdued and introspective offering, ‘POISN’ is a deeper dive into the singular universe of Lifesize Teddy. The release is comprised of 5-tracks produced alongside collaborators Sevn, Andre Vibez, Sparrq, shAKez daVinci and Papi Gonzo and features guest appearances from Magixx and Chocobantis.
Trading the high-energy and at times-brash tone of her debut EP, ‘POISN’ sees the 23-year old rapper, singer/songwriter and poet approach her audience with greater degrees of vulnerability. Exploring everything from grief, sexuality, happiness, her innermost convictions to the striking reflections that have come with her newfound fame over the past few months.
The EP’s title is a metaphor for her talent but in her own words, Lifesize Teddy said: “‘POISN’ in this case is not something that’s harmful or dangerous but rather an antidote for those seeking a well-rounded artist who refuses to be pigeon-holed”.
The project’s first single ‘Unbeliever’ was produced by the GRAMMY-nominated Sparrq (Davido, Ayra Starr). Shining light on the power of the tongue and self-assurance, ‘Unbeliever’ is a revelatory and prophetic Afrobeats anthem dedicated to those who may still be unsure of what Lifesize Teddy has to offer in today’s musical landscape.
Sharing a thematic consistency with the messaging belying ‘Prophecy’, a stand-out track from her self-titled debut EP. Speaking on what ‘Unbeliever’ means to her, Lifesize Teddy said: “Lyrically the song sends a message to those who are still in doubt about the type of music I do. It’s okay to be an unbeliever but there’s enough time for them to buy in".
‘POISN’ marks the official follow up to Lifesize Teddy’s self-titled debut EP released earlier this year in August. The captivating and critically-acclaimed 5-track excursion through Hip-Hop, Alternative R&B, afro-pop, electronic and alte sounds was noted for standout tracks ‘Hypnotic’, ‘Butterflies’ and ‘Air’.
All of which would garner critical adoration from the likes of NME, Music Week, COLORS, The Line Of Best Fit, OkayAfrica, The NATIVE Mag, The Voice Newspaper and DUMMY in addition to concurrent radio support from BBC 1XTRA.
This soon parlayed into a touring slot opening for fellow-Mavin Records signee Ayra Starr on the UK-leg of her ‘21: The World Tour’, getting her feet wet in Birmingham and Manchester before its conclusion at London’s renowned KOKO.
