MAGLERA DOE BOY IS THE PEOPLE’S MATADOR IN ‘THE RUNNING OF BULLS/ DOR DO POVO’ MUSICAL SHORT-FILM FT 25K
Kanana’s pride and joy, Maglera Doe Boy has just released the cinematic visuals for his newest single, The Running Of The Bulls/ Dor Do Povo which features fellow rapper, 25K. Breaking the mould from the template of music video releases, Maglera Doe Boy has delivered The Running Of The Bulls/ Dor Do Povo’s visuals in the form of a short film.
Maglera Doe Boy, who is widely regarded as one of the pioneers of the modern SA hip-hop scene, has been described as a breath of fresh air on the circuit due to his creative and innovative approach to his art. In The Running Of The Bulls/Dor Do Povo, he takes his concepts to new heights a she lets the story behind the song unfold as a two-part short film.
The scenic region of Macaneta in Mozambique plays as the backdrop for the visual story. The video begins with alternating cuts between countryside and city backgrounds during the first half of the 8-minute track, The Running Of The Bulls. Those landscapes are swapped for coastlines and hood settings in the second act, Dor Do Povo as both the scenery and cadence switch up. The meaning (“pain of the people” in Portuguese)of the second title hits particularly hard as he raps about the struggles of Africans in poverty.
Maglera Doe Boy’s loyal fans have been eagerly awaiting the visuals since the two-part single was released on streaming platforms on the 29th of January and teased on social media. Likely, they won’t be disappointed as not only do the rappers shine in the video, but director, TK Mokgotsi’s knack for cinematic storytelling manages to elevate their performances even further.
The Running Of The Bulls/Dor Do Povo short film is now available for streaming on YouTube and will be premiering on South African television on MTV Base from the 31st of January2023.
