The search for the best breakers in Mzansi has come to an end. The world's most prestigious break dancing competition Red Bull BC One in South Africa has announced B-Girl Mids and B-Boy The Curse as the winners of this year's competition.

To celebrate the momentous milestone of 15 years of this global competition in South Africa, Red Bull BC One hosted a three day showcase that paid homage to the history and culture of this epic form of dance and sport. Taking place at the Cape Town Stadium, the three days was made up of a series of activities that lead up to the final battle cyphers that saw B-Girl Mids and B-Boy The Curse as the victors that will be representing South Africa at the world final in New York later this year.

This Red Bull BC One Facebook and YouTube live streamed event hosted by Mel Rock and Elly the Entertainer had the top 16 B-Boys and top 8 B-Girls going head to head in a massive showdown that had the most epic and gravity defying action packed moments.

Through rigorous judging by international breakdancing heavyweights Jey, Lilou, Sarah Bee; South Africa has ultimately announced the Red Bull BC One champions.

“The hard work has paid off; I'm really excited to be going to the birthplace of hip hop and I would love to meet with all the famous dancers that I know and be able to have jam sessions and cyphers with them.” said the winner of Red Bull BC One in South Africa B-Girl Mids.

“I never thought I was going to last this long, from 2007 and until now - 15 years later. I was the first to win it back to back, and the first to have the champion title three times, I was the first to represent South Africa at the Middle East Africa battles. It feels good to be back, my age requires me to train harder especially with the new talent coming up but I look forward to showing up and representing my country in New York.” said the winner of Red Bull BC One in South Africa B-Boy The Curse.

In February and March, Red Bull BC One hosted four regional stops comprising of workshops and cyphers in Johannesburg, Gqheberha, Cape Town and Oudtshoorn in this search for the finalists that competed at this high-energy final showcase.

The three day Red Bull BC One camp highlighted the best of breaking culture through many festivities including graffiti battles, crew cypher battles such as the South Africa Heroes vs Africa Heroes Exhibition Battle, and the exhibition battle with the first generation of breakers in South Africa. The camp also had a live streamed Crash Fest battle hosted by Tawfiq which featured international breakers Darkhero, Kid Mario, Lilou, B-Boy Yuki, D12 and Delkrim.

The camp workshops included a variety of sessions such as DJ workshops with DJ Ready D and Tha Cutt, footwork sessions with Jey, as well as insightful sessions hosted by Lilou and Sarah Bee which gave more insight about their knowledge and experience.

B-Girl Mids and B-Boy The Curse will be heading to the World Final taking place in New York this November.
