SAMA-nominated Bonga Kwana calls on Drumpope & Bucie to present us with a spirit-conjuring tune, Ndibize
Through a series of life’s turbulent events, a song came as an answer to Bonga Kwana in the form of an affirmation from God, saying “call on me in your times of troubles. This message of hope has now come to life as the new single “Ndibize" out now via Platoon.
Adapted from the book of Genesis, the Xhosa hymn and chant are meticulously woven together with a modern day afro-house ‘je ne sais quoi,’ “Ndibize” is the definition of New Age Gospel. Bonga Kwana, the songwriter and SAMA-nominated vocalist, describes it as “an affirmation that came to me in the form of a song after a series of turbulent events in my life; a response from God, saying ‘call on me in your times of troubles. ”
It’s through the same divine intervention that Bonga met and collaborated with Drumpope and Bucie who poured their hearts out to bring this auspicious offering to life.
Drumpope, a pioneer of South Africa’s dance music scene, is a multi-platinum producer known for fusing African sounds with electronic beats. His discography includes artists like Ntsika, Zonke and Oskido. Bucie is a legendary South African vocalist known for her soulful voice and afro-soul stylings. She has worked with prominent South African artists such as Black Coffee and Heavy K, to name but a few.
Together, their creative chemistry results in a single that is spiritually grounded yet radio-ready. Lyrically, “Ndibize” encourages listeners to call on God in times of hardship and need. Sonically, its afro-house sound and soulful vocals make it equally fitting for both worship and the dance floor.
