Very Nice People – The EP From The Well Swung Trio Swings Both Ways
Swing City are backwith a new EP to cater to any swing and jazz fan. The swinging trio have been juggling solo projects and other creative endeavors in between recording a series of new jazz tracks with a counterpart Electro Swing version of each. April 2023 sees the release of this collection!
The EP title track, Very Nice People was originally made famous by Fats Waller and His Rhythm in 1939! Now, 83 years later, following the ‘second prohibition of 2020’, the All Star threesome have paid tribute to Fats in the Very Nicest, Paradise-est way possible with their version. Additionally, an Electro Swing version of the same track accompanies the release of the classical, jazz one.
The EP features another 1939 hit “It Ain’t What You Do (It’s the Way that You Do it)”, originally recorded by Jimmie Lunceford, Harry James, and Ella Fitzgerald, and again in the same year by Nat Gonella and His Georgians; and also My Baby Just Cares (For Me), made famous by Nina Simone. The group needed to carefully think about how best to pay tribute to Ms Simone while still bringing the track into now.
The group connected with the wonderfully talented Berlin-based, Finish Jazz powerhouse, Ina Forsman, to bring some authenticity to the dance version.
On the refresh, Ina says: “I was excited to get in contact with Swing City, and once they started talking about making their own version of this golden classic, I was very interested to hear what we would cook up together. I love Nina Simone’s version of the song, and I hope my part in this song shows my appreciation to her legacy.”
