Wandile Mbambeni Confronts Grief and Faith in New Single Hey Lord

On the morning Wandile Mbambeni learned of rapper AKA’s passing, a familiar heaviness returned. It was a feeling he had wrestled with before—the same darkness that hung in the air when Riky Rick left us. Grief, confusion, and an overwhelming need to ask God why. That morning, with tears and unanswered prayers, Hey Lord was born.

A deeply personal and soul-searching song, Hey Lord is not just music, it’s a conversation with God, an outpouring of pain, doubt, and the desperate need for clarity. Sung predominantly in Xhosa, Wandile’s voice trembles between exhaustion and hope, reflecting the questions so many have but are afraid to ask.

"When Riky passed, I had questions. When AKA passed, those questions came back. It felt like too much. I asked God to forgive me for even just thinking about leaving this earth, for letting the darkness in. This song is my way of speaking to Him, of asking for strength when I have none."

Layered with gospel undertones, folk honesty, and raw emotion, Hey Lord stands as one of Wandile’s most vulnerable pieces. Known for his soul-baring storytelling and powerful vocals, he has built a career on truth—whether in love, pain, or self-discovery.

Following the success of his single "I Don’t Regret It", Hey Lord continues Wandile’s journey of creating music that resonates deeply with the soul.

The single is now available to stream worldwide via Platoon: https://platoon.lnk.to/hey-lord
