Wings For Life World Run.
Run with local and international celebrities this Sunday for the Wings For Life World Run.
In just three days at some of the most spectacular locations around the world, including Table Mountain, The Sydney Opera House, the Tower Bridge in London, or the Statue of Liberty in New York as the backdrop, thousands upon thousands of participants will be running once again for those who can’t.
Runners and wheelchair users from 189 nations have already signed up for the 2022 Wings for Life World Run to raise funds for spinal cord research. United in spirit despite their far-flung locations, the participants of the biggest run on earth will be lining up together in large groups on May 8 at 13:00 SAST at the physical starting lines of the seven Flagship Runs or individually on the virtual starting line when competing at the App Run to run, roll or walk for the good cause. 100% of all entry fees will be going to spinal cord research to find a cure for spinal cord injury. The good news is that registration for the 9th annual edition of the Wings for Life World Run is still open at www.wingsforlifeworldrun.com.
Since 2014 an incredible number of one million participants in total have joined the global movement in the nine annual runs so far to raise funding for spinal cord research – International celebrities like football star Neymar da Silva Santos Jr, tennis pros Matteo Berrettini and Stefanos Tsitsipas, skiing legend Lindsey Vonn, five-time Dakar Rally champion Cyril Despres and water sport icon Robby Naish – to name just a few – are planning to take part on Sunday and are encouraging their followers to join them.
Local celebrities will also be taking part to raise money for the foundation, these include actors and YouTube sensations Hungani and Stephanie Ndlovu, radio host Zanele Potelwa and world-renowned trail runner Ryan Sandes.
The Ndlovus are looking forward to beating the record they set for themselves last year “Being a part of the Wings for Life World Run initiative was such a rewarding experience knowing that our energy and effort was impacting the lives of those who can’t run for themselves. We ran 5km and we are hoping to run more this year.”
Everybody is welcome to take part in the Wings for Life World Run - from novice runners to professional athletes, young or old, runners and wheelchair users. Everybody can join the global charity run and run, roll or even walk – on the same course at the same time.
More than 180,000 runners and wheelchair users from 195 nations took part in the 2021 Wings for Life World Run. Due to the pandemic, the participants all ran separately with the Wings for Life World Run App as their race guide and were pursued by the Virtual Catcher Car. In 2022, participants will once again be able to run with the App wherever they are or otherwise also the opportunity to form teams even across national borders and set themselves a special goal they want to reach.
