RED BULL BC ONE CELEBRATES 15 YEARS WITH A SPECIAL 15 ROUND BATTLE
Breaking in South Africa has come leaps and bounds
Breaking in South Africa has come leaps and bounds over the past few years and with the inclusion of the sport at the Paris Olympics in 2024, the drive and spirits of the country’s top breakers is at an all-time high. To celebrate 15 years of Red Bull BC One in South Africa, a 15 round exhibition battle was set up between current Red Bull BC One South African champion, B-Boy Benny and Red Bull BC One Cape Town champion, B-Boy Toufeeq.
Hosted by Lunga with DJ Tha Cutt on the decks at a secret location in Cape Town, the evening kicked off with a crew battle between Mitchell’s Plain’s Tough Nation and Kuilsrivier’s New Crew. The crews showed off their skills and collaboration in an exciting showcase of the best breaking Cape Town has to offer before the 15-round battle between B-Boy Benny and B-Boy Toufeeq.
The battle was intense with both B-boys showing off their world-class skills and moves over three 5 round segments with only a minute break in between each set. “I have much respect for Benny as I battled him last year in the national final and it was an honour to share the floor with him again in this special moment” said B-Boy Toufeeq.
In the end, breaking was the winner as both B-Boys hands were raised in victory by Lunga. The b-boys crews and fans gave off an electric energy that culminated in a breaking showcase that showed off the immense talent Cape Town has in the scene.
Toufeeq Baaitjies, aged 25, also known as B-Boy Toufeeq, will be competing in the national final taking place on 26 June in Cape Town against 15 other B-Boys from around the country.
The full battle will be available on redbull.com in the coming weeks.
